Vence is an interesting hilltop village about 15 miles from Nice. It sits in the hills above Cagne Sur Mere. Close to Vence is St. Paul De Vence, where you can spend the entire day looking at art with the other 10 million tourists. If you want some peace and quiet, try Vence. The town has many small coblestone streets, a great pizza parlor, good cash machine and lots of shopping, and not many tourists. Located directly across the valley from Vence is the Chapelle du Rosaire de Vence or Matisse Chapel. Henri Matisse helped design and build the chapel. Several of his murals are on display. He also did the stained glass in the chapel. While in Vence we stay at Les Remparts, where Steve Bass rents out his studio appartment at a very reasonable price with parking. Here is a link to his website. Les Remparts http://vencestudio.com/ The views are from the park, and from the balcony at Les Remparts.
